Personal financial information held by financial institutions and higher education organizations as related to student loan and financial aid applications. Gramm Leach Bliley Act (GLBA) provisions govern this data type.
Under GLBA, the financial aid department must secure nonpublic personal information in a student's student loan application and keep the information confidential. In order to ensure the security, the financial aid department must follow the Safeguards Rule, which states that the department must have a written information security plan that describes their program to protect customer information.
